We are excited to welcome Dr. Gacheri Njogu-Ndongwe as our Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 September.
Dr. Gacheri brings more than 20 years of experience as a medical doctor, public health expert, entrepreneur, management consultant and non-profit leader overseeing large-scale programs in health, education, gender and social protection. In her most recent role as Regional Director for East and Southern Africa at IDinsight, where she advised on data and evidence, she developed the first regional strategy, oversaw revenue growth of more than 150% in just 2.5 years, and led various digital, health and women’s empowerment initiatives in Africa and India. Gacheri has also worked with McKinsey & Company and Centre for Health Solutions – Kenya, and consulted for UNOPS, WHO, and The Global Fund, among others.
At NurtureFirst, Dr. Gacheri will spearhead our next phase of growth with a focus on:
- Honing the designs of our pilot learning interventions through rigorous evaluations so that we can deepen our impact and scale interventions to reach all the home-based childcare providers in Mombasa, Murang’a, and Kisumu Counties who want them
- Expanding our community-led, systems-change approach in new Counties in Kenya and new geographies in Africa, Asia, and Latin America
- In collaboration with SmartStart, leading a new global coalition of home-based childcare organizations, so that we can increase the funding, programs and policies to uplift home-based childcare providers globally
Looking ahead, Dr. Gacheri has shared her enthusiasm for building systems that recognize and elevate home-based childcare, supporting children, families, and providers to thrive. We are confident that Dr. Gacheri’s leadership, vision, and wealth of experience will guide NurtureFirst into its next chapter of growth and impact.
